IT sector is one of the hottest fields in India. Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest firm in the IT sector, alone employs more than 1 lakh people. The number of skilled workers employed by the IT sector in India is expected to grow further in the next 5-10 years. If you are looking for a robust career in the IT sector, the following tips can help you land the right job in the field:

Get a professional degree in IT

Most big IT firms in India such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro etc. prefer candidates with a professional degree in IT. Get a BE, BTech, Bsc. Computer Science or other similar degrees in order to get one step closer to a job in the IT sector. Most of these big companies hire people through campus interviews. Thus, it always helps if you get a professional qualification from a reputed institute in the country.

Specialize after graduation

It is not mandatory to get a post graduate degree in IT after graduation. However, if you are looking for a good start to your career in IT, it also helps to get a post graduate degree, preferably an MCA. An MCA degree helps you specialize in one particular field of IT, which boosts your chances of finding a good job with a fat pay packet.

Utilize social networking

Companies in almost every industry are replying more and more on social networks to find the right candidates for a job. Don’t undermine the importance of social networking, especially professional networks like Linkedin. Network actively on Linkedin and highlight your skills and strengths in order to grab the attention of employers.

Don’t lose touch with your seniors

Many times, companies decide to recruit through referrals than going through consultancies. This helps them save hiring costs. Moreover, a referral is always given higher priority. Make sure you don’t lose touch with your seniors since they can help you find a good job in the IT sector.

Power up your resume

A good resume is essential, whether you are looking for a job in the IT sector or somewhere else. Make sure you highlight the projects you have handled in your college years, and the skills you have learnt. Apart from that, highlight any add-ons such as good communication skills, or good managerial skills, as companies are always looking for candidates with something extra.

Diploma holders need not be disappointed

If you are just a diploma holder in the IT sector, you need not get too disappointed. If you know one or two computer languages such as Java, C++ etc., you could still find a suitable job in the IT sector. It will just take that little bit longer, but if you have the skills, companies would be more than willing to hire you.

Keep the above pointers in mind when looking to build a career in the IT sector. They will help you have a stable and fruitful career ahead of you.
